Dogzymes Electrolyte Powder Supplement

Verified Jun 10, 2026

Dog · Supplement All Life Stages All Breed Sizes

This is a flavorless electrolyte powder designed to help dogs and puppies replace key minerals like sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, and magnesium during heavy exercise or hot weather. It’s very low in calories and can be mixed into food or water or given directly by mouth. Because it’s a supplement, it’s meant to be used alongside a complete and balanced dog food rather than as a primary nutrient source.

KibbleLab Score
8.0 out of 10

Nutritionally, this is a straightforward, concentrated electrolyte supplement that delivers high levels of sodium and chloride with additional potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It’s well-suited for working, sporting, or very active dogs that may lose more electrolytes through panting and exercise, or for occasional support in hot weather. As with any electrolyte product, it’s important that it be used at the recommended small doses and only in dogs that are otherwise healthy and eating a complete diet.

Nutritional Perspective

KibbleLab Review

Strengths

  • Simple, transparent formula using standard electrolyte salts (sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, magnesium) with no unnecessary additives or calories.
  • Highly concentrated, so only a very small amount is needed daily, which helps limit any digestive load.
  • Can be mixed with food or water or given directly, which gives flexibility for dogs with different preferences or in different working conditions.
  • Very low calorie content makes it unlikely to interfere with weight management when used as directed.

Considerations

  • Electrolyte levels, especially sodium and chloride, are quite high, so it should only be used in the small measured doses provided and not free-fed or heavily mixed into drinking water.
  • Not appropriate as a treatment for dehydration or illness without veterinary guidance; dogs with heart, kidney, or certain endocrine diseases may need to avoid extra electrolytes.
  • This product is for intermittent or supplemental use only and must be paired with a complete and balanced dog food to meet overall nutritional needs.

Top 5 Ingredients Explained

01
Salt
Salt (sodium chloride) is used in pet foods as a flavor enhancer, mild preservative and a source of essential electrolytes (sodium and chloride), and is often provided in iodized form to help meet iodine requirements for thyroid function; these minerals support nerve and muscle function and fluid balance in dogs and cats. Small, controlled amounts are nutritionally important, but excessive salt can cause dehydration, worsen heart or kidney disease and, in extreme cases, lead to salt toxicity, so pet owners should avoid adding extra table salt or high‑sodium human foods and follow veterinary guidance for animals with medical conditions.
02
Potassium Chloride
Potassium chloride is a mineral salt added to pet foods to provide the essential electrolyte potassium (and chloride), helping meet nutrient requirements and support normal fluid balance, nerve conduction, and muscle function. It is useful for electrolyte supplementation but must be used at appropriate levels—excessive potassium can be harmful, may affect palatability, and pets with kidney disease or on certain medications are at higher risk of hyperkalemia.
03
Calcium Acetate
Calcium acetate is used in pet foods as a source of dietary calcium and as a stabilizer/acidity regulator, and in some therapeutic renal diets it can function as a phosphate binder to reduce intestinal phosphorus absorption. It provides calcium important for bone, teeth and neuromuscular function in both dogs and cats, but excessive supplementation or an improper calcium-to-phosphorus ratio can cause skeletal and metabolic problems (notably in growing large-breed puppies) and it should be used cautiously in pets with hypercalcemia or on specialized diets.
04
Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium sulfate is used in pet food primarily as a source of the essential mineral magnesium in premixes to help meet dietary requirements; magnesium is important for enzyme function, nerve and muscle activity, and bone health in both dogs and cats. While appropriate levels support normal metabolism, excessive magnesium can cause gastrointestinal upset (loose stools) and—if not balanced with other minerals and urine pH management—may contribute to struvite crystal formation in susceptible cats, so formulations follow established nutritional guidelines.
05
Calcium Silicate
Calcium silicate is typically used in pet foods as an anti‑caking and flow agent to keep dry kibbles, treats, and powdered supplements from clumping during processing and storage. It provides no meaningful nutritional calcium for dogs or cats, is considered largely inert and safe at approved usage levels, and should not be used as a substitute for formulated calcium sources or be over‑included (or create excessive dust) during handling.
