Cucumber is used in pet foods and treats primarily as a low-calorie, high-moisture ingredient that adds crunch, fiber and small amounts of vitamins (notably vitamin K and vitamin C) and minerals; it can be offered fresh as a hydrating, low-calorie snack for dogs and, in small amounts, for cats. While cucumbers can aid hydration and weight management and provide mild digestive fiber, they should be fed plain (not pickled or seasoned), washed to remove pesticides, offered in bite-sized pieces to avoid choking, and given in moderation to prevent gastrointestinal upset—especially since cats are obligate carnivores and gain little nutritional benefit from plant matter.
