About Kiwifruit
Kiwifruit is sometimes used in pet foods or fresh treats as a fruit inclusion for flavor, soluble fiber and antioxidant micronutrients (notably vitamin C and potassium) rather than as a protein source; note that dogs and cats can synthesize vitamin C so it is not essential in their diets. While its fiber and antioxidant content and the proteolytic enzyme actinidin may offer mild digestive or antioxidant benefits, kiwifruit’s acidity, natural sugars and sorbitol can cause gastrointestinal upset or diarrhea in sensitive animals, and some pets may be allergic or experience oral irritation, so it should be given only in small amounts or avoided in pets with digestive issues.
